In Their Own Words
Alumni Spotlights
Four AILDS graduates whose journeys illustrate the breadth of impact our community is making across Sierra Leone and West Africa.
Mariama Koroma
Senior Policy Analyst
Ministry of Finance, Sierra Leone
Achievement
Promoted to Senior Policy Analyst within 18 months of graduating. Now leads a cross-departmental team of 40 staff, overseeing fiscal policy reform initiatives funded by the World Bank.
“The Diploma in Leadership and Governance at AILDS completely transformed how I approach public service. The curriculum is practical, relevant, and deeply rooted in the African context. I now lead a team of 40 at the Ministry of Finance with far greater confidence.”
Emmanuel Bangura
Founder & Managing Consultant
Bangura Advisory Group
Achievement
Founded Bangura Advisory Group within six months of graduating. The consultancy now serves 12 clients across Sierra Leone and Guinea, employing a team of five junior consultants.
“AILDS gave me the tools to launch my own consultancy. The Entrepreneurship programme was not just theory — we built real business plans, received mentorship, and connected with a network of professionals across West Africa.”
Adama Sesay
Nurse Manager
Connaught Hospital
Achievement
Implemented a new ward management framework that reduced patient waiting times by 30% at Connaught Hospital. Recognised by the Ministry of Health as a model for clinical leadership.
“As a nurse manager, I needed leadership skills that matched my clinical expertise. The Executive Certificate in Leadership Excellence at AILDS delivered exactly that — in just three months, I had frameworks I could apply immediately on the ward.”
James Conteh
Country Director
West Africa Development Partners
Achievement
Oversaw a $4.2 million rural infrastructure portfolio across three West African countries. Championed AILDS capacity-building partnerships for 60 mid-level managers at partner organisations.
“The Project Management Diploma equipped our staff with globally recognised frameworks. Since partnering with AILDS for our capacity-building programme, project delivery timelines across our portfolio have improved significantly.”
